This was a big offseason for the Chicago Bulls for the past few months. But not it’s time for the Bulls to show a certain level of progress on the floor that proves that this team is ready to be a true postseason contender.

And the Bulls are looking to put together a pretty special season by most indications thus far. This squad definitely delivered on the entertainment factor in the preseason opener at home at the United Center on the night of Oct. 5. The Bulls opened up the preseason slate at home against the divisional foe Cleveland Cavaliers.

The result of this meeting with the Cavs certainly was impressive. Granted, you can’t take too much away from a preseason win like this one.

Two of the players that showed out well in the preseason opener against the Cavs this week were star shooting guard Zach LaVine and newly acquired former New Orleans Pelicans point guard Lonzo Ball. LaVine went for a game-high 25 points, and Lonzo showed his solid perimeter defensive ability throughout the entire game.

Chicago Bulls have a lot of potential in the backcourt with the duo of Lonzo Ball and Zach LaVine

LaVine also had high marks for his new teammate following this preseason win over the Cavs. According to a tweet from K.C. Johnson of NBC Sports Chicago following the Bulls dominant 131-95 win over the Cavaliers on Oct. 5, LaVine said that “it’s been a treat to play with Lonzo”.

We’re sure to see a lot of fireworks with LaVine and Lonzo playing together in the same backcourt. LaVine never really got to play with a two-way point guard that could compliment his skill set quite the way that Lonzo can.

We already got to see some of the two-way impact that this backcourt duo of LaVine and Lonzo could have. These two combined for six steals, two blocks, eight assists, eight rebounds, and 33 points in the win over the Cavs.

It will be a lot of fun to watch the duo of LaVine and Lonzo heading into the regular season. These two will likely form the best Bulls’ backcourt in at least a half-decade. And it will be one of the most exciting backcourt duos in the Eastern Conference this season.

LaVine, Lonzo, and the Bulls will now carry a record of 1-0 into their next preseason game, which comes against Zion Williamson and the Pelicans at home on Oct. 8. And then, the regular season slate opens up on Oct. 20 against the Detroit Pistons.
